Know who the adjuster represents
An insurer evaluates coverage and exposure for its policyholder or its own contract obligations. Courtesy does not make the process neutral.
Keep a communication log
Record claim numbers, representative names, dates, topics discussed, and documents sent or received.
Avoid guessing
If you do not know an answer, say so. Avoid minimizing symptoms or estimating facts from memory.
Review authorizations
Understand the scope of medical releases, property releases, and settlement agreements before signing.
Protect relevant evidence
Retain original files and communications. Do not delete relevant posts, messages, photographs, or records.
Get fact-specific advice
Special deadlines and coverage issues can apply. A consultation can identify questions that a general guide cannot answer.
